The ten plagues seem directed at some of the specific gods of Egypt. If God were bringing a plague against the United States what kind of plague might He bring against us?

OR

Describe a time of your own wilderness wandering? How did God bring you strength?

OR

After the Golden Calf incident, Moses speaks as follows to God: (Exodus 32)
30 The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”
31 So Moses went back to the LORD and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold. 32 But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.”
33 The LORD replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book. 34 Now go, lead the people to the place I spoke of, and my angel will go before you. However, when the time comes for me to punish, I will punish them for their sin.”

Moses was self-sacrificial and offered his own life on behalf of the people of Israel. Describe a time when someone was self-sacrificial for you or when you self-sacrifically helped someone else. Obviously Jesus is our Greatest Friend, but please use this opportunity to speak of someone besides Jesus.

  1. Just last weekend I went hunting with my fiance. It was my first time climbing a tree and I am very afraid of height. I felt that God gave me the strength to be able to climb the tree and over come my fear. I had a fun time and enjoyed the hiking in the woods and spending some quality time with my fiance. It is something that I would enjoy doing again. - Amy

  2. My father was a man who always gave to someone else before himself. Money, time, resources, patience.. I could go on and on about my father. One thing his was known for was time. He made sure the person who had his attention knew that they were the most important thing. 2 am phone calls, hours in meetings, house visits.. he would sacrifice all of his time. He was a full time student, had a full time job, husband, father of four, and extremely active in the church. He often set everything aside to comfort the needs of someone needing love or attention. He never complained about to his workload. He was just there giving his 100%.

  3. Both of my grandpas were part of World War II, and their fathers and grandfathers fought in World War I. Today, I know several people who I went to high school with that are currently serving overseas. I consider anyone in the military to be a completely selfless person, willing to die for their country. It's mind-boggling to me that people today continue to sacrifice themselves for more than 90% of a country they don't know. It's an amazing thing, that every member of the armed forces possesses faith, courage, humility and strength. I'm so honored to be a part of a country that has so many people who choose to defend their fellow citizens and to fight for their freedom. Aside from Jesus and Moses, I think this is one of the most selfless things someone can choose to do in this day and age. Many things are an option, and being in the military is one of the many choices. When someone decides to enroll in the armed forces, they choose to because they love their country and want the best for it and the people living there. Truly a selfless thing seeing that they are willing to risk their lives to give that to the country.

  4. I remember when I had a pair of air jordans. I didn't tie my shoes because I thought it was cool. One day I was running in gym class for exercise, and my feet caught up with the shoe and I fell and spranged my ankle. It only took me one time to realize that not making sure that my shoes were tied before going to school could mess up my ankles. The real issue was that my mother told me to tie my shoes, and I refused to do it because I wanted to look like other people. From then on I always made sure that my shoes were tied, and I always listen to my elders. -Jessica Johnson

  5. If God were to cast a plague down upon the United states he might send down great clouds of smog. The smog would cover the whole country and it would be fairly thick, making it hard for people to see or get around. It would hurt to breathe and it would sting our eyes. God would send this plague to warn us about how we have damaged the earth And how we have not done all we could to minimize our negative effects on the planet. God would hope that the smog would help us to reduce our pollution and save us from a worse fait.

  6. In my freshman year of high school, both my grandparents died (mom's parents) within 10 days of each other. My grandpa had a heart attack, while he was in the hospital my grandma was admitted for a mild stroke. A few days later my grandpa died of another heart attack. We waited to tell my grandma in hopes that she would get better/stronger but she wasn't getting any better so we had to tell her. The next day she passed. This was probably one of the hardest moments of my life and I knew my mom was in so much pain. I believe God definitely gave me strength during this difficult time. He gave me the strength to be there for my mom and take care of her all while I myself was grieving. I couldn't possibly imagine losing both my parents at once like that and I knew all she needed was the love and support of our family and friends. He also helped me to grieve and except the fact that both my grandparents were in a better place and they would always be with me.

  7. I think that if God were to cause a plague on the United States, it would likely be a financial crisis, as one of the major distractions of our society is money, or perhaps it would be an extremely widespread power outage, which would cause all kinds of chaos due to our extreme dependence on electricity, television, and the internets. These things are all distractions of our society which cause us to take our eyes off of God and His will, perhaps meriting classifications as the "idols" of our society.

  8. I believe that if God were to plague the United States, he would do it in the form of a financial crisis. Along with this, he would attack all of the gods in our society that take away from the glory of God. For example, God might send a plague over Hollywood and the entertainment industry, as personal entertainment often replaces our need for God and may lead us astray from Him. He might also form a plague over our jobs, as jobs often facilitate the love of money instead of the love of God.

  9. Living in the technological age I honestly believe God's greatest plague would be some sort of country wide internet crash or power outage. It would force America to revaluate family values and morals and be forced to live a more minimalistic lifestyle.

  10. Last spring, I went to visit my best friend in Singapore. He knew it was my first time in a foreign country so he did everything he could to make me feel comfortable during my vacation. He even stopped communication with his other friends and barely slept the entire week just so I didn't have to go anywhere without him. I couldn't believe how much he sacrificed and I couldn't ask for a better friend. -Eric

  11. One plaque I think that God would bring against the United States would be involved with technology and specifically, cell phones. In our society we tend to cherish our phones greatly and allow them to distract us in many ways. We tend to put them at the top of our priorities list when God should be our number one. -- Bianca S.

  12. There isn't a specific someone who was self-sacrificial because I believe all Hmong parents and grandparents who came to the US from a life as a refugee or warrior in Vietnam, sacrificed their lives to help raise their kids to be able to live a life with out fear in the US. Knowing no English and not owning a single thing. I feel Hmong people are self-sacrificial and still are.

  13. I feel God would bring a plague involving technology or something with phones or computers. It seems like our society relies on technology the most out of anything, with our communication and transportation by needing a GPS to get somewhere. Without technology, our society could be screwed.

  14. If God were to bring plagues on the United States like he did in Egypt he would certainly have a lot to choose from. Our Society today has so many false Gods that we worship more than our Lord. I think God would destroy money bring a plague that would burn/get rid of all the money/material items in this world. Because are greed for power and wealth has turned into its own god. I think he would bring a plague to punish us for a sexual actions. I am amazed at the love and anger tolerance of our lord because if we truly think about what this world has come to how angry would you be? but god still has patience and love for his children.

  15. I feel that if God brought a plague to us it would have to deal with technology or government. We are so dependent on technology that we wouldn't know how to react or how to do every day things. With the government we rely on them for many things. The government gets food to the the people that can't afford it, deal with student loans, and even help keep the national parks open. Because of this we can't even enjoy the beauty of our country. I think that our government being shut down could possibly be a test from God, whether it is our trust in him or trust in our government.
